ZINARA delays Byo roads resurfacing

The Bulawayo City Council says a delay by the Zimbabwe National Road Authority (ZINARA) to allocate funds for road maintenance has hampered its efforts of resurfacing roads before the rainy season.

Debating during a full council meeting on Wednesday evening, councillors said the local authority has not received anything from ZINARA for the past three months.

“ZINARA hasn’t given us tar for the past three months, so this is why there is no progress in most of these wards because ZINARA is still owing us,” said ward 15 Councillor Israel Mabaleka.

Council reports show that ZINARA had promised to allocate BCC a total of $3million for routine and periodic road maintenance.

Council minutes further show that progress in the reconstruction of some roads has been hampered by shortage of manpower.
