The MDC-T Bulawayo province has rapped police for their continued intimidation on its senior leadership ahead of the crucial general elections later this year.
This follows reports that about seven police officers in plain clothes ransacked MDC-T legislator Reggie Moyo’s residence in Gwabalanda, reportedly searching for illegal military radio communication devices and subversive material.
“We are aware of their tactics and we can no longer take this form ofpolice action towards our members,” said Bulawayo’s party provincial spokesperson Mandlenkosi Sibanda.
He said it was a mystery to them where the police officers got asearch warrant to access Moyo’s home.
“We don’t know where on earth they got the warrant to search his houseand as a party we are concerned with this form of organisedintimidation on our party members. This should stop,” said Sibanda.
Moyo was in Parliament in Harare when the incident occurred.
“I do not know what they anticipated to get in his house, but we arenot surprised that nothing was found,” said Sibanda.
He said Zanu-PF should desist using state security agents to fight its battles.
“The continued use of police officers will defeat the very spirit offree and fair elections come the time for general elections,” said Sibanda
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo failed to give details on how the police in question were granted a search warrant referring questions to CID coordinator for Matabeleland region Assistant Commissioner Erasmus Makodza who said he had not gota report regarding Moyo’s raid.
