Matopo war veterans intimidating villagers

ZIPRA Veterans Trust says it is alarmed by intimidation tendencies ahead of the forthcoming elections that are being perpetrated by war veterans in Matobo District in Matebeleland.

Advocacy officer of the Trust Msongelwa Mpofu says some war veterans are threatening to remove resettled families in ward 13 and replace them with ZANU PF supporters.

He says the war veterans led by one Clever Dube and are questioning villagers which party they support in a move that is suspected to be aimed at identifying those who are notZANU PF apologists.

“The villagers have informed us about this violence. I can tell you that this thing is a was purposefully invented to perpetrate violence,” Mpofu said, “In this region those people are led by one Mkandla from Gwanda and his actions are the same as those of Clever Dube who goes around trying to displace resettled households in Kezi to pave way for the settlement of ZANU-PF supporters.”

Some war veterans have been used by ZANU PF to perpetrate violence ahead of elections since 2000.
