Bulawayo Councillor for Ward 11 in Emakhandeni, Nduna Dladla is involved in a battle with a section of residents in his area over the control of a community borehole.
Dladla told Radio Dialogue that a group of Zanu-PF women recently seized the borehole and are only allowing fellow party members access to the infrastructure.
“I have approached (Isaiah) Magagula (Bulawayo council’s Director of Housing and Community Services) and they have promised to attend to the issue. This thing has turned political and it is sad that they are using their Jambanja tendency to grab community infrastructure,” said Dladla.
The councillor said it is unfortunate that the development comes at a time when the city is facing water problems indicating that his Ward has one functional borehole.
However, Dora Nkonjela one of the residents accused Dladla of attempting to sideline them for being Zanu-PF supporters. She said Dladla wanted to personalise the borehole for the benefit of his supporters.
She said: “Ever since he (Dladla) was elected as a councillor some of us have been subjected to undeserved discrimination. He is pushing his political interests ahead of development which has never been the case before.”
Nkonjela also insisted that the borehole is a community facility noting that they will not allow anyone to personalise it. The infrastructure was drilled by council through the assistance of development partners.
Dladla recently defected from MDC-T and joined MDC.
